Just visited Neil. The surgery is complete and Neil is back in SICU. He had an uneventful trip there and back. The orthopedist said the surgery went well. He was able to "plate" the bone. He put the bone together, put a metal plate around this and screwed this into place. (This is the social worker's understanding.) He did have to do a bone graft as he said there were about 14 fragments from the bone. The orthopedist is hopeful there will be no more surgery but is not convinced the actual foot will not need something later. The biggest concern from the orthopedist now is infection in the leg from the surgery. Neil will start on ancef for a couple of days to help with this. Neil is still on leviquin(?) for the serratia. Neil is alert but groggy. His leg is wrapped big and this will come off Thursday. We cannot wait to see Neil at 8:30. He thinks he wants a sip of milkshake at that visit. Please pray for Neil's lungs and his leg.
This has been a good day for Sue and Shannon. Both have done well on the trach collars. We are so excited for both. Hey, I saw John Greshaw in the truck going home being driven by his wife. Let's continue to pray for the full recovery of Sue, Shannon, John and our other friends her.
Early on in this experience I learned a valuable lesson from a good friend of mine. She taught me how to do what I am going to share with you. I have just prayed for a miracle for Neil to NOT have an infection in his leg and I have just thanked God for answering this. We continue to thank God for his recovery. Thank you all for loving us.

Neil, you've been on my mind all day and I've said several little prayers for you to pass each hurdle. You are an awesome young man, I'm so proud of you.

We will continue to lift Neil in our prayers and I am so thankful for his progress. His continued healing of Neil's foot, leg, and lungs remain in our prayer list. May God continue to bless you and your family and give you strength to face each day.

Love to all as you get past this next step. So glad to hear that the surgery was successful. Not too long from now Neil will be dancin' to Buffet in his parrothead regalia. Keeping you all in thought and prayers, Becky P
