Christmas is near!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I can't believe I haven't posted one time in the month of December.  I will try my best to catch you guys up in this post.  If it starts to get long I may break it up into multiple post.

On Dec. 1st, we went to Tuscaloosa with the intentions of going to the Bama/Georgetown basketball game.  Jerry and I rode up there with Dog and Janice.  Once we got to Reese's house John-John met us as he was our ride for the evening.  DeAnn decided to come up Thursday Night instead of Friday, so we started talking about not going to the game.  In our discussion about eating it came up that John-John had NEVER been to Dreamland.  I was very disturbed by this and in total shock.  Needless to say we bailed on the game and headed to Jug Factory Road.  We had a great meal but I didn't feel right about ordering baked beans for DeAnn.  We had close to 2 loaves of bread with sauce on top of the ribs.  Eating there started the weekend off right.

Friday morning we all were slow getting up because we had time to kill.  We kicked around MacFarland until lunch when we headed towards campus.  Our intentions were to hit Gallette's for a yellowhammer since it was Gameday.  They weren't opening until 6 and didn't buy our claims that it was gameday.  I guess high school football doesn't count.  We hit Buffalo Phil's and camped there until it was time to go to BDS.  We did make a quick trip to the Walk of Champions in between that was very neat to see.  We bid farewell to our friends at Phil's and made the short walk to the stadium to see the Elba Tigers play.  It was very special to see one of my hometown team play in such a legendary facility.  I know it meant a ton to the players and coaches.  Elba ended up overcoming a half-mile of penalties to beat Tanner pretty bad.  Elba had a lot of support as a couple thousand were there to support the Tigers.  We got back into Elba in time to pick up D's college friend, Robyn, and get to the school and meet the bus.

Saturday we had planned to have a Christmas Party with a few friends at the house and even though we were tired we knew we had work to do.  We had everything ready and had time to hit the Christmas parade before the party started.  The party ended up being a great time as we had a good crowd that was in a festive mood.  The only problem was one couple was working as a team in dirty Santa and  I told DeAnn we would have to think before inviting them back. (Bradley I expect this out of Hope, but figured you were better than that)  It was truly a fun night!

This past weekend we went to the AAL Christmas party in the atrium at the MPAC.  We had a very good time and probably stayed in Montgomery a little to long.  It is nice to know all the folks that help me walk everyday are really wonderful people.

Well my time is about up.  If I don't get back on here before Christmas, I hope you all have a blessed day and I greatly appreciate your continued support.

Monday

Hey Guys,

I really hope everyone is getting ready for good food and a few days off.  I know I'm ready for both.  I'm going to digress a little and go back to last weekend.  Late Friday afternoon DeAnn, Jerry, and I took Merrill to the Elba playoff game in Flomaton.  Our football team is really looking better and better.  If we can get some of the penalties under control we might be unstoppable.  After we made a few adjustments we played very well in the 2nd half and won 33-23.

Saturday morning I went to the office and left for Dothan around 11:30.  I had been invited by the Waters' to watch the Bama game and didn't want to lose a future invite if I failed to show.  We had a great time as usual, but had to pull for Bama a tad more than I intended.  If you ever need a laugh I suggest going over there as the Stephens' and Waters' will certainly do the trick.

When I got back to Elba I went to DeAnn's parents to celebrate Alison's birthday.   Happy 25th Al!!!!!!

Happy Birthday Grandmama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is my Grandmother's 80th Birthday.  I might have written this before, but I'm gonna write it again.  I never knew her age until probably 10 years ago.  When I was a kid when asked how old she was she always responded "old enough yo be your grandmama".  So, Happy Birthday.  I Love You!

Go Time!

Our hometown Elba Tigers are in the playoffs as the #1 seed.  This team has more speed than any high school team I've  ever seen.  We breezed through much of the schedule and scored 50+ most Friday nights.  Elba has a wonderful football tradition and we are a proud town.  I hope everyone keeps their opinions to themselves and supports these guys as they hopefully make a trip to Tuscaloosa.

After Coach Wood retired we didn't have much to cheer about and all everyone wanted was a winner.  We now have been winners for several years now and people complain that we are not winning like we should.  My Dad always says "there's more than one way to skin a cat".  Listening to some people in Elba you would not believe that is true.  I'm not posting this to debate right and wrong, I'm simply on here saying SUPPORT THE TEAM.  They don't need distractions as they try to fulfill a dream season.

Trip of a lifetime

I may get in a little trouble about this blog, oh well.  One of the members of our group is adamantly opposed to social media.  I challenge you to figure out who it is.

On Wednesday October 5th, Dad, Uncle Daniel, and I pulled out of Elba around 1 pm.  We were going to pick Uncle John up in Marianna.  We picked JK up and headed to Tallahassee.  Our flight left at 7 so we kicked around until the plane boarded.  Once we boarded we settled in for the hour and 20 minute flight and proceeded to make fun of Uncle John.  He hates flying by the way.  We landed safely and met up with Teddy and Jerry, who were coming in from Montgomery.  We picked up 2 4-door Jeeps, got a bite to eat and bed down for the night before truly starting our trip.

Thursday morning we left Miami and hit US 1 in Homestead.  We stopped at the last gas station before you get on the Overseas Highway and took the tops off the jeeps.  The views are pretty amazing as you drive south.  We hit Islamorada around lunch.  We quickly learned a few things in the Florida keys 1) they use "resort" very loosely 2) no need for watches because the time doesn't matter.  We got to our condo and it was very nice with spectacular surroundings.  Thursday we just lounged at the pool and tried to get familiar with the place.  That evening we ate at the Hog Heaven, it was a good local place with a good vibe.

Friday morning we were going to try a spot for breakfast that the bartender at the pool suggested.  Our place was at mile marker 84. The place we planned on eating at was The Mideway Cafe it was at MM 80.  It happened to be closed that day so we  thought we would continue south until we found something.  Well, we found Stout's, only problem was it was on Marathon and 20 miles farther south than we anticipated.  This is where Uncle John's saying "We we going for breakfast and ended up in Key West" came from.  So this is when we decided to see the place that made Buffett famous.  It took us over 1.5 hours as we never got over 50 mph.  As we descending into KW we followed US until it ended.  We parked and hit Duval.  We quickly found that the walking was gonna be tough on Teddy and I.  So I took one for the team and hung around Capt. Tony's while they went walking and Teddy was in my chair.  We got a group pic at the Southernmost marker and will put it on here as soon as Uncle John gets it to me.  We left KW around 2 and decided to try a place Jerry had seen on the Travel Channel.  The Hogfish Grill was just north of Key West.  It had a great vibe and the hogfish was good, but the conch salsa was better.  We left there and we were heading back to the hotel.  As we got off the 7 mile bridge on Marathon we noticed "The Sunset Grill".  This place had a great back patio to watch the sunset and also had a good band.  We stayed there until the sun went down and then trekked backed to Smuggler's Cove on Islamorada.  We listened to a few sets of the band before it was time to hit the hay.

Saturday morning brought rain and college football.  If it was gonna rain we might have been at the most picturesque setting imaginable.  We set around and watch a couple games and rehashed the trip to this point and waited for the rain to start again.  Saturday night we made a return to Hog Heaven as they had a ton of tv's.  We commandeered a few and watched Bama.

Sunday morning marked the end of our trip.  We finally made it to Midway Cafe.  It was a great way to end this trip.  We packed the Jeeps up and headed north as we all had fights to catch.  We tried to kill time as our flight weren't until 5.  Around 3 we dropped the Jeeps off and then we split back up from Teddy and Jerry.  Our flight was uneventful and we dropped Uncle off at his truck and we rolled in to Elba around 10.

I know this has been written more than once on this blog.  This trip was pretty much set up in Baptist South Hospital 3 years ago.  To see it come to fruition with the group that went was very special as the 5 guys that were with me were very instrumental in my recovery.  Thanks Boys it was a blast!

I hope you enjoy reading this recap and I apologize in advance for the grammar and spelling.

Friday!

I hope everyone has had a great week.  I didn't realize it has been since last Tuesday since I have posted.  DeAnn started a review class last weekend for her PE exam.  It last almost all day on Sat and Sun so I went to Dad's to watch the Saturday slate of games.  We always have a good time on the back and it was an awesome almost fall afternoon.

Last night DeAnn, Jerry, and I went to the Chamber Banquet.  Russ Wood was the guest speaker and did a great job of weaving stories of his dad, Coach Bryant, and his faith together.  The food was great and the fellowship was better.  Mrs. Kaye and Kerry did a wonderful job.

We are going to Tuscaloosa this weekend to tailgate, see Reese, and attend Merrill Curran's birthday bash.  I sure hope Bama is ready for that high powered offense of Arkansas.  It should be a great time nonetheless.

Thoughts and Prayers

Last Friday night I got the call that I had been dreading, James Grimes had passed away.  He had been battling cancer fora long time and his health had been deteriorating lately.  If you have read this blog for any length of time you know that Wynn and I are good friends.  I know how much Wynn loved and looked up to his father and this is a difficult time to say the least.  Please keep the family in you prayers.

Wonderful Weather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last week we went to the beach for Labor Day weekend.  DeAnn, Mom and I went Thursday night because Lilah DuBose was being christened Friday morning.  Friday we got up headed headed West to Blue Mountain to attend the gathering with the whole DuBose family.  The weather was great and "Miss " Lilah handled it like a champ for a while, but needed a little rest close to the end.  I personally think it was all the pictures.  What a great family!

Friday afternoon Uncle John, Bert and I ran some errands while DeAnn slept and Mom worked.  We then lounged in the pool and waited for all the last arrivals.  Friday night we cooked the standard first night meal of hamburgers and hotdogs.  After a game of cric-crac I hit the bed.

We woke up on game day to a ton of rain and an odd early Bama game.  We had 2 TVs side by side so DeAnn could watch Auburn.  Bama looked good for a scrimmage and Auburn still has luck on there side.  W's all around.

It was a great weekend with friends and family.  Those moments are really cherished by us all.

Monday Morning QB

Good Morning Everyone,

Friday night Jerry and I rode up to Mack Wood field expecting Elba to thrash Opp.  The thrashing wasn't in the cards as Elba rallied in the 2nd half and held on to a late lead to secure the 1st win of the season.  Elba was sloppy, but not as bad as the officials. Whew those guys need to tighten up.

Saturday morning I was at the office and Uncle Daniel came by and we talked almost all morning.  Saturday afternoon we had to go to Dothan to Cammie Kelley's wedding.  We left early to go by John and Jenny's and they talked us in to coming back by after the wedding for dinner.  We had a great time hanging out with them most of the afternoon and talking about next weekend.  Thanks for dinner Ninny!

Yesterday we went to Mrs. Gwen Marsh's funeral.  Mrs. Gwen had been in the nursing home for a while, but I'm sure it is still hard for her family to let her go. After that Dad and rode over to visit Mike Kelley.  I've spoken about Mike here before.  He has cancer and is taking rounds of chemo.  Yesterday he was in good spirits and we laughed while reminiscing about the old times.  He looks good, well as good as he can look I guess.  Keep fighting big guy, I love ya.

NEED YOUR HELP!!

Hey Guys,

The Dystance4Dystonia 5k Run this year is on September 24. The start and end line will be at Covenant United Methodist Church at 3610 West Main Street in Dothan. If you are not registered, it will begin about 7 that morning. We would love to have everyone!!

The paragraph above was posted as a comment a few days ago by my Aunt Virginia, Mom's sister.  Her husband Tim has Dystonia and this 5k is a mission that that Uncle Tim, Aunt Virginia, Howard, and Rebecca  have worked very hard to promote.  Last year in addition to the 5k they had a 1 mile fun walk that the Stephens' did and we were all rather loud.  I hope that the Hornsbys weren't too embarrassed, although Aunt Virginia did have to admit that the two loudest ones were her 2 favorite brothers.

If you can make it please come over to Dothan and join us.  It won't take long and door prizes will be given.  If you can't make it, donation will be graciously accepted.

Happy Anniversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is our 4th anniversary.  It is really hard to just look back and see the roller coaster we have been on in these 4 short years.  DeAnn always says that she's been married 4 years, but I've only been married 3 1/2 because I was out of it for 6 months.  I talked to Vermillion a few days ago and told him this was coming up and he couldn't believe the wreck was 3 1/2 years ago.  It really blew his mind.

DeAnn, I can't thank you enough for standing by me through all of this and I hope you realize how much I love you.  Oh yea, today think about Garth Brooks so you don't feel bad that a present will not be waiting on you.

Update

Since it was Dad's Birthday Monday I had to post that and couldn't give and update on other things.  Well,  the 2nd weekend of the month was the "ticket tournament" at the ECC.  The weekend was great and we had a wonderful turnout for the raffle.  In fact I believe it went down as the most successful weekend ever at the club.  We had the "Lower Levee Boys" on the patio after the raffle and a good crowd stayed to hear them.

Last weekend we went to some friends wedding.  It was a very nice wedding(I can't use the term sweet).  It cooled off as a storm blew in but it never rained and it was very comfortable.  Congrats Drew and Ashton!

DeAnn is competing in a boat race Saturday in Montgomery.  I believe it is for charity and her company is involved.  If you happen to be close to the river go check her out.  Also, Saturday afternoon our good friend and my classmate Cammie Kelley is getting married at Landmark park.  I know it will be very grand affair if Cam is involved.

Happy Birthday Pop!

Today is Dad's 61st birthday.  I think over the last 3+ years I have conveyed how I feel about my family.  Five or six years ago dad had a list of things he wanted to do.  A couple years later it became a bucket list after the movie came out.  The last thing on this list is a trip to Key West.  I wanted to do this last year for his 60th b-day, but with him building and me buying the agency the timing was terrible.

Well a few weeks ago I mentioned the trip to Uncle Daniel and he went into full blown planning mode.  So, 6 of us are leaving Oct. 5 and flying to Miami.  The next morning we will start a drive to Islamorada.  We plan on exploring all the keys, but I am on a mission to watch the sunset in Mallory Square.  I know this is not a birthday present, but I think it will feel that way once we are wheels up.

Happy Birthday big Guy!  I love you so much.

Hump Day!

Hey Guys,

I thought I had posted last week, but as I got in I noticed it was July the last time you heard from me.  I really am sorry.  Anyway,  last Friday I had to go back to AAL to change a few things on the  knee.  After we made the adjustments I had a little time so I stopped by HeathSouth and saw LeeAnn, Jennifer and the rest of my old therapist and friends.  We had a great visit except it was so hot and every time I got out of the car sweat was just pouring off of me.

I went to DeAnn's office and saw some of her co-workers that I haven't seen in a while.  She has a few characters up there that just crack me up.  The only problem was I got scolded every time I laughed or talked.  We left and tried to get in a little back to school shopping.

After shopping we had a dinner date at the Pub with Teddy and Lisa.  We had such a good time catching up with them and the food was great as usual.  As we were leaving DeAnn and I both agreed that those two were the biggest reason we miss living in Montgomery.  Good Times!

Saturday saw us go to Dothan to check on Mom at the hospital.  Oh yeah, Lucia had a bout with diverticulitis.  By Saturday, she was doing well and ready to go home.  However, us being hospital experts we knew it would be Sunday.  Sunday, after Ham I went to break Mom out.  I'm happy to report she is doing well and back to her busy ways.

End of July

Hey Guys,

Like "Miss" Mildred said in the comment, please continue to keep Mike in your thoughts and prayers.  Also, Brice Paul had a double lung transplant.  He is stable from what I understand and they are optimistic.

I went to AAL on Wednesday and got my new knee.  I am liking it, but it needs a little tweaking.  I will probably go back next week to get those adjustments.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ready for football season.  I watched the Bama/Arkansas game from last year the other night.  DeAnn made fun of me, but I was jonesing to watch a game.

I know I haven't said anything that is earth-shattering lately, but thinks a slow.  I think that's a good thing.

Saturday Morning

Hey Guys,

I hope everyone had a great week.  I really just wanted to post and say we need a few prayers for Bryce Paul.  I'm hearing he had a lung transplant and his body is rejecting it.  Bryce was appointed sheriff after my grandfather was killed and was elected until he retired in the 1990's.

My pal Mike Kelley is still fighting his cancer and needs continued prayers.  I haven't heard an update on him in a few days.  Maybe B Money or Mrs. Mildred will fill us in.

Its been pretty slow around here socially.  We have our big tournament the second weekend in August.  then 3 weeks after that its FOOTBALL SEASON.

Free Weekend!

The golf tournament in Elba was a lot of fun, but it will wear you out if you're not careful.  Dad and Reese played decent and snuck to the pay window.  We had 2 options of live music on Saturday night.  Chace Sauls' girlfriend was playing at the club.  Incredible and very talented.  Bad habits, a southern rock band, was at the oyster bar.  Naturally, we hit both.  Good times.

I found out this week that WC approved the request for my new knee.  I will be getting the Rheo 2 in a week or so.  I'm really hoping this helps me continue towards freedom with no cane.

Aunt Jenny is back in the hospital with an infection that the Docs are trying to figure out.  Get well soon Ninny.  I love you.

Tournament Time

Hey Guys,

Last weekend we were at the beach for the 4th.  John and Jenny weren't there, Aunt Ninny had a couple of issues, but thankfully she is fine and on the mend. Kathy and Jenni Waters came down on Saturday.  Bert didn't come because his boyfriend wasn't coming down.  Shocker ya know.  I mean, you think you know someone and then you find a whole new side to them.  I thought we were tighter than that Bert, you really hurt me.  Sorry about the tangent.  The beach was packed like I haven't seen since 2007.

Dad, DeAnn, and I came back on Sunday morning so we could go to Mrs. Brunson's funeral.  It was a really nice service for such a sweet lady.  Please say a prayer for the Brunson family.

This weekend there is a golf tournament in Elba.  We will probably be hanging around the club most of the weekend.  Hope everyone has a good one.

AMAZING

DeAnn and I left Elba around 7:00 Thursday evening.  We were flying out of the new airport at the beach so we decided to stay at Mom's condo.  We got down there and turned the A/C on because it was some kind of hot.  After it cooled down enough to sleep we both nodded off.  I woke up real early because I wanted to get an earlier flight.  There wasn't one so we had to wait and leave at 4:30 pm.

We had a full day ahead of us so I let DeAnn sleep until a little after 10.  We decided to go to Pier Park and get something to eat and kill time.  We had a pizza and window shopped until it was time to move.  We got to the airport at 3.  With me being in a wheelchair, I go through security immediately anywhere and it being a small airport we had plenty of time.  The flight to Memphis was uneventful and we had a small layover.  The Memphis airport is small, but since we are used to Atlanta I guess my image is distorted.  After boarding for Vegas, I settled in for the 3 hour flight and starting reading a book.

We landed at McCarron, and I called a cab driver that I have been following through his blog.  Andrew  picked us up and took us to Aria.  He was such a nice guy, and it was great to meet the man behind the computer.  We got to Aria and WOW.  This is the newest of MGM's hotels at CityCenter.  We checked in and went to drop our bags in the room.  Our room was the nicest room I have ever been in much less stayed in.  The casino is huge and had about 20 restaurants.  As it was pushing 2 am (4 in Elba) we decided to call it a night.

My eyes opened at 7 am the next morning, and I couldn't go back to sleep.  I decided that I would go down stairs and let DeAnn sleep.  I played a little 3 card/craps until 10 and DeAnn decided it was time to eat breakfast.  We went to the brunch buffet which was very good. With our first show, Viva Elvis, starting at 7 we had to eat supper around 5.  Our first choice was not available so we ate at American Fish.  The chef was Michael Mina.  That meant nothing to me, but it was a solid meal.

Elvis was very good.  There was live music which is different from Love (the Beatles show) and there wasn't as much acrobatics.  It was a different kind of show but entertaining nonetheless.  After that show was over we had 2 hours to get to the next show.

We arrived at the Wynn in no time and went to find the box office so we could pick up our tickets for Garth.  We got them and had a hour to kill.  We walked around the casino, and it is very nice.  The show started about 10:30 so around 10 we went to get in line.  The line was literally a half mile long the way they had it set up.  We went to the back of the line and even though I was in my chair a nice security guard insisted we follow him to the front.

We found our seats and the show got started a little late, but Garth walked out and said "Let's start from the beginning", and played "Much Too Young".  It was different than I expected.  He went back to when he was a kid and talked about his musical influences as he was telling the stories he would sing covers from Don McClean to James Taylor to Bob Seger.  He brought out Trisha Yearwood in the middle and then did a full set of his songs at the end.  We finally left, completely floored, at 1:30 AM.

The sun rose on Sunday morning, and it was time to head south.  Our flight left at 11 and when we got to Atlanta a massive thunderstorm delayed our flight for over an hour.  We got back to Panama City around 9:30, and I pulled into 773 N. Claxton at 11.

I hope DeAnn enjoyed her birthday, valentines, anniversary trip as much as I did.  I wish we would have stayed an extra day but other than that it was perfect.

I'm sorry this is so long, but I really wanted you to hopefully see this trip through our eyes.  Hope you Enjoy!

Hump Day

Hey Guys,

Last week I told you that we were going to see Ron White with the AAL crew.  We had a blast at his show and went to the Alley bar afterwards.  We were all sitting there and I look up and Ron is walking in the front door.  He didn't hang with us commoners long and went to the VIP room.  I thought that was comical, but most of those folks have large egos I guess.  We had a great night and thanks for the tickets Glenn.

Friday we were invited to my pal Bradley Bowers birthday celebration by his sweet wife Hope.  There were several couples there and we sat around and talked about the old times.  We all had a great time growing up together and it showed in all the "lies" that were told.  I told Bradley we need to do this more often and he agreed.  I was supposed to type this yesterday, but didn't.  Anyway, Happy Birthday Bradley and tell Hope thanks for the invite.

For DeAnn's birthday, Valetine's Day, our Anniversary, Mother's Day, etc. I got us tickets to see Garth Brooks on Saturday Night in Las Vegas.  We are flying out Friday and coming home Sunday.  We both have always wanted to see him and there is no time like the present.  I actually same him at the peanut festival in 89' or 90' but I'm not sure that counts.  It is going to be a quick weekend, I'm just hoping it's worth it.

The streak is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Monday I had to go to the dentist and have a cavity filled.  It was the first cavity I have ever had.  I really didn't know what to expect, but it was pretty painless.  I wasn't too concerned because my tolerance is pretty high, but needles in my mouth had an uneasy feeling in my stomach.  After a shot and 15 minutes in the chair I was up and walking out the door.

Tonight I am meeting DeAnn in Montgomery and we are going to see Ron White again with the folks at AAL.  We are pre-gaming at the Renaissance with the crew.  We usually have a great time with that bunch and you never know where the night might lead.  I will try to give a review later on.

Family

Hey Guys,

We finally got some rain here in Elba on Friday, however some people got more than others.  At this point any rain is good rain.

Last Wednesday afternoon after we closed I took a trip to Troy.  I had to go visit some folks on campus.  I have written before about the people I work for and with while I was in school at Troy.  I intended to be up there for a couple of hours, but ended up staying all day.

When we started talking  and it was like I had never left.  I never dreamed when Mr. Joe Johnson gave me a job I would end up getting family out of the deal.  Mrs. Mildred, B Money and Mrs. Reba treated me like one of their own.  For almost 4 years I saw them day in and day out.  We have shared so many laughs over the years we probably could write a book, but that would cause way too much controversy.

Mr Steve Waddail rode us around campus and showed me all the new construction and his new house.  That campus is barely recognizable to someone who graduated 7 years ago.  Mr Steve and I have always been close and it was great catching up with him.  We laughed the whole time and my side was hurting by the end of the day.  We also stopped by McCartha and saw Mrs. Lynn Hughes in the College of Business.  I worked for her and Machelle Danner during the last couple of summers I was on campus.  I  had my choice of schedules and ate too many chicken, egg, and cheese biscuits.

It ended up being a wonderful day.  I saw Mike Kelley.  He went to work with creative services after I  graduated but know him through Dad.  They worked together in the 80's and he is such a nice guy.  He is really going to need your thoughts and prayers as he recently found out he has liver cancer.  I will keep you guys updated on his progress.

We Need RAIN!

Hey Guys,

Its been a while since I lasted posted an update on what's going on in our lives.  We went to the beach on Memorial Day and had a very nice weekend in the sun.  Kathy and Jenni Waters stopped by on Saturday for a little fellowship then Jenni took our money that night.  I still haven't heard the end of it.  Besides a few games of cric crack we didn't really do anything except hit the beach/pool.

This past weekend I traveled with Dad to beautiful Defuniak Springs, FL for the annual Luau golf tournament.  When I was a kid this tournament was kinda the Masters of our little tour.  The stories of the wildness and good times ran rampant when I was growing up.  Dad quit playing years ago and when I turned 22 or so I begged him to go play with me.  He finally agreed and we convinced Wynn to be our 3rd wheel.  We played three years together before my accident and always had a good times and brought home a little money once or twice.  Some of the best folks in the world are members of DFSCC and I love going down there to see them.  It was a very hot weekend, but we had a great time and Dad, Wynn and Dewberry finished 3rd/3rd which shocked everyone in the golfing world.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Hey Guys,

I truly am sorry it has been so long since I last posted.  I have a few things to share, but I want to reserve today's post for Mom.  I just went back to see what I have written in the past on her birthday and I have about covered it all. Please read all the June 2nd's.  She is such a sweet and caring person.  Most people would agree except some former students at Troy(probably).

Mom,

I love you so much and I know you are getting ready to leave the beach, but I hope you have a great day.

Post From Reese in Tuscaloosa

Hi Everyone!
It has been a long time since I have had the opportunity or need to post on Neil's blog.  I know he has kept you up-to-date on the activities in Tuscaloosa.  For a town I have lived in for less than 2 years I have become very attached!

Many of you probably know that as I turned 30 this past year I thought I would do something a little different with my year.  I made a list of 30 Things I want to do when I am 30.  I started a blog that is tracking them in a way.  With the storms that blew through a few weeks ago I have compiled a list of ways to help and have a link on the left side of my blog (the houndstooth ribbon)to the list.  If you would like to see my small personal list just go to my blog at:

http://reeses30in30.blogspot.com/

Just wanted to share and I hope you all are doing well!

Weekend

Hey Guys,

I hope everyone is doing well.  DeAnn scolded me about my grammar and usage in the blog.  I believe you all no that I am knot wrighting this to bee a professional.  I usually type this, proofread it once and then let it go.  I hope I don't offend anyone with my words.

Last weekend Mom, Dad, and I went to Tuscaloosa to volunteer.  We got to Temporary Emergency Services(TES) on Saturday morning.  I was checking in clients while they unloaded supplies and folded clothes.  After a few hours I was just amazed at the support our state was getting from the rest of the country.  We saw trailers come in from NC, Kentucky, and Texas.  Most of the people were grateful for the help.  They still need certain items in and around Tuscaloosa.

If anyone wants to get some things together I will be glad to get them up there.  The most needed items I saw were cleaning supplies, new underwear, and gloves.

I was glad to help and coming from Elba we know what it feels like to see others want to contribute.

Prayers

Hey Guys,

Most of you probably know about the passing of Allona Vaughan. It is certainly tragic and shocking. The Vaughans' have lived by us my whole life and the old Saddle Hill was very close. I guess time has a way of distancing people. As a kid we all gathered up from Che and Scott down to me and I am 5 years younger. Even though I don't see them all the time like I used to when ever I do we always laugh and joke usually at my expense. Ronnie, Prissy, and Che have been on my mind constantly since yesterday morning. Please pray for this sweet family

Thursday

The cleanup in Tuscaloosa continues. Reese said things are kind of returning to normal or as close as it can be.  We went to the beach last weekend.  Everyone was planning to go to Tuscaloosa, but the relief efforts hadn't gotten kicked off yet.  I think Mom is planning on going this weekend.

The beach was great.  It was "Thunder Beach" so if you like hearing bikes roar all weekend it was definitely the places for you.  Luckily, Mom's place is a little secluded so it wasn't too bad.  Saturday night we went to Capt. Anderson's.  No wait and the meal was fantastic.  I had been talking up Ebro and Mom was driving so when she gave me a sly look I knew what was happening.  Unfortunately, the dogs don't start running until the end of May.

Happy Cinco de Mayo and Fins Up,

Devastation

Sorry it as been another week since I have blogged.

Just wanted to drop a quick blog and let everyone know that the Granthams, Stephens', Ruddocks, and Waters' are all ok.  Amy doesn't have a car and Brian Waters has a couple of trees down but other than that I believe he is ok.  What an amazing storm.  I was in Enterprise the morning after in 2007 help our office over there and video and pictures just doesn't do this justice.  I talked to Reese  for a few last night and the gym she goes to is gone.  The rumor yesterday afternoon was that dreamland was gone but it was full moon instead.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved.

Tuesday

Man, I have been doing so good.  I have been blogging at least once a week and then the wheel ran off.  It has now been over a week since my last post.

Last week was pretty slow except for my return trip to AAL.  I got a new foot that has a shock absorber that really helps me make a more comfortable step.  The new knee is on hold for now until we get a few things cleared up.

I have been walking a ton unassisted lately and forgot how fun it is to just jump up and go somewhere.  Speaking of going, D and I went to PCB this weekend and had a blast.  The Stewart clan was down there and we all had a great time catching up.  Mater, it was great seeing ya'll. Thanks for letting us hang with you.

Today is Kyle and Amy DuBose's 3rd Anniversary.  I will never forget there wedding.  I wasn't there due to the wreck, but they called the hospital and Mom laid the phone by my ear and all the family talked to me.  I couldn't talk back and by the end I had tears streaming down my face because I couldn't tell Bub how happy I was for him and "Aunt" Amy.  It's strange how I remember that so vividly.  Congrats guys!

Wow, Wow, Wow

What a finish to a tournament!  When Tiger came out of the gate like he did I thought the course and the other players were in for a long day.  When he stood on the tee at 10 I would have bet big money he would've won his 5th jacket.  At 3:30 there were 9 folks with in two of the lead.  A South African named Charl Schwartzel pulled away with birdies on the last 4 holes.  It was truly one on the most amazing finishes in golf history.

We had a large time all weekend as Elba had a tournament also.  I guess spring is finally here as the tour is in full swing.  It was great seeing a lot of people I wouldn't see if not for golf.

That's really all I have.  I will try to post later in the week.

Moving Day @ the Masters

Hey Guys,

Well it's Saturday of Masters Week which means its "moving day".  It's time to put yourself in position to win this most prestigious tournament.

Man this week has been busy.  Tuesday I had a dermatologist appointment in Dothan.  Wednesday I had a clinic at AL limb.  It appears I may go a new knee soon.  It should help my mobility quite a bit.  After the clinic I met Dr, Vermillion and crew at Chappy's for lunch.  We had a great time catching and seeing what was new.  I also saw the barber shop women, "little" Amy Peavy, and "respiratory" John.  I love seeing all the people that contributed with saving my life.

Thursday and Friday I have been engrossed with the Masters and trying to do as little as possible while keeping up with the leader board.  I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

MASTERS WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Guys,

This is the week that I look forward to for 51 weeks.  I'm sure I have written about my love for this tournament and course before.  ANGC-Augusta National is one of the most amazing places I have ever been to.  It makes the the cathedral that was "Old Yankee Stadium" seem like an ordinary place or The Rose Bowl just an old field.  I woke up this morning thinking of the people walking through the gates for the first time.  Beers and sandwiches are 2 bucks and EVERYTHING is Augusta green. It is surreal.

This weekend we had a good but busy weekend.  Yesterday was Dennis and Jan's anniversary and we ate at there house and watched the final four games.  Mom was at the beach with the Dothan crowd.  They said it was great except for a little wind.  Dad was playing golf in Greenville and Reese was at the Gymnastics meet in T-town.

Last night as I was watching the ACM's I started reading the blog from the beginning.  It is almost unbelievable.  3 years seems such a long time until you think back to where I was.  Have a good week.

Another Monday

Hey Guys,

Well that weekend was fun.  DeAnn has been up in arms about getting a dining room table.  We never eat at the kitchen table so I just don't understand why we would add another seldom used table to our portfolio.  Friday night we were back in Dothan and stopped by to see the Dothan crowd where I am beginning to see a pattern.  Uncle John was gracious enough to let us lift his Sam's card to go check out a table DeAnn has been eyeing.

She liked the table and I called Uncle John and he was coming to Elba on Saturday and said he would bring it.  He ended up having to use his work van for the 5 boxes

We went to the wedding(Congrats Judson and Katie) and knew the table was waiting on us.  It took help from both sides of the family and 2 days but the tables and chairs are all assembled.  Whew.  I will try to post a picture.

Saturday night we went to see a local band play and had a great time and we were in bed by 12.  Lent sure is nice.

Thursday

Well, Bama won last night to continue their postseason run.  They looked pretty good and rarely put a full game together.  I am feeling much better and think I may live after all.  It was touch and go for a while.

This weekend we have our last wedding for a week or two.  It has been a run, I tell ya that.

I have really been hitting the gym a lot lately.  I haven't lost weight, but I do feel alot better and maybe I'm toning up a bit. My goal was to drop SEVERAL pounds by Memorial Day, that isn't gonna happen.

Talk later.

Monday

Hey Guys,

I'm still sick, but I went to the doctor this morning.  Having sinus issues and not wanting to be outside left me with 1 thing to do....watch the basketball tournament.  I have watched more basketball in the last 4 days than in the last 4 years. I watched 4 whole games yesterday.

Saturday we went to see my good friend Kerri Lawford get married.  I didn't attend the reception because I looked bad and felt worse.  DeAnn said it was very nice though.  Congrats K and Chris.

Friday night although I didn't need to go we had supper with Ryan and Emily.  It was great catching up as we haven't seen them in a while.  Afterwards, we stopped by Bert and Kitty's, they all made fun of me about my voice.  The great thing about it is I really don't value too many opinions over there except for Aunt Ninny and Kitty's.  They rest are just bullies for the most part. They still to kick a man while he's down.  We had a good time nonetheless.

Bama plays in the 2nd round in Tuscaloosa in the NIT.  RTR

Friday

I'm a little under the weather at the moment.  More than one person thinks its because I want to watch the tournament, but if you have heard me you would know that's not entirely true.  Speaking of basketball, look at all the upsets yesterday.  The first few games all went to the wire.  I really thought St Johns would make a run, but it seems the Big East is over-rated.

That's really all I have I guess I just felt like blogging.

By the way,  I have been listening to Buffett and I have a bad case of cabin fever.  I'm ready to go to the beach!

March Madness

Hey Guys,

I hope everyone is playing nice.  I'm pretty sure that nobody reads this thing anymore.  I may need to start texting the people that do want to hear from me.  That may be easier.

Today is the opening round of the NCAA basketball tourney.  Since my wreck everytime I think of this I smile.  In 2008 I had been awake for a little over a week.  I didn't have double vision anymore and was already tired of regular TV programming.  The first game started at 11 or 12 and I had a game to watch for  the next 12 hours because of the West Coast.  I would take a nap, watch a little, take a nap and so on.  It was as close to heavan as I had been in the last couple of weeks.  I got pretty close to testing that theory a few weeks before and I hope I was going up and not down.  I don't think March Madness would have been as important down stairs.

We are still in wedding season with 2 coming up in as many weeks.  We are meeting one of DeAnn's college friends for supper Friday night and might make an appearance at the "Playhouse".  This weather sure is nice.  Later.

Monday

Hey Guys,

I know it has been almost two weeks since I have posted and I apologize.  I got scolded about talking about weddings/parties, but that is about all we have been doing.  The weather has been absolutely amazing except for a few days.

The time changed over the weekend and it was rough getting up this morning.  Maybe after a week it will be a littke better.  I hope everyone has a great week.

Tuesday

Hey Guys,

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  We sure did, we were in Birmingham for a wedding.  Congrats Taylor and Kim we had a great time.  Also, Happy belated Birthday Aunt Ninny.  She turned 39 again yesterday.

Most of you may remember that Saturday(26th) was the 3 year anniversary of my wreck.  It has been a long journey and physically I'm still recovering.  Emotionally I might be as strong as ever.  I don't see how you could go through that and not come out a changed person.  Personally, I think I changed for the better.  I enjoy all the same things as before but I take in the sounds and smells so much more.  My time on the beach with family and friends is something I absolutely cherish.  I sent an email on Saturday to all my docs and nurses and got really nice responses.  I will never be able to thank them enough.

As I sit here typing this I can't stop thinking of my Dad.  Today is the 32nd anniversary of my granddad's death.  I can't imagine what he was going through 3 years ago. Sitting in the waiting room at Baptist thinking of his dad and hoping I would pull through must have been excruciating.  I hope that the situation with my grandads killer will be resolved and my family can have the peace all victims deserve.

What a weekend!

Man that is a looooooong weekend.  Saturday morning I went to the office.  After I closed I met Jerry and John at the Ranch House.  Jerry and I decided to go hit a few golf balls.  We planned on going home for a while and then coming back because there was a band playing that night at the club.  Well, we didn't leave until around midnight.  The band was awesome and everyone out there had a blast.  It was great seeing that much activity going on out there.

Yesterday was the 500 and everyone gathered at Dad's.  The race was pretty boring and the majority of the time was spent reminiscing about our old trips to Talladega.  My side stated hurting from laughing so hard.  The last 20 laps were good and the kid winning in a Wood Bros. car was spectacular.  It was a popular win in Nascar.  We went home around 7 and I was asleep by nine.

Dale Earnhardt

I can't believe I have never mentioned this before, but February 18th 2001 was the day Dale Earnhardt was killed.  It is shocking to me that it has been 10 years since his death.  For those of you that didn't know I was a huge Earnhardt fan and lived and breathed racing.

That year Dale was coming off a 2nd place finish in the points and DEI/RCR really had something going.  Anyway,  I can tell you play-by-play how everything happened and where I was every step off the way.  I probably took his death a little too hard, but he was my hero and for the last 12-15 years of my life I watched him every Sunday.

After he died I kept up with racing but it was no longer my passion.  A few years later I barely watched all the races and now I don't even watch a whole one now.

Those times in my life were awesome and we made great friends in NASCAR and in Talladega.  I think it is great that 10 years later I can look back and smile about a bad man who was like John Wayne in my eyes.

He was definitely the man!

Good Tuesday Afternoon

Hey Guys,

I hope this finds you all well.  I really haven't been able to give updates because I felt that would be selfish.  Now that things have slowed down I now feel like I can start back.

I have been at home on the weekends since we got home from Vegas.  It has been wonderful not being on the road.  It's bad when you come to work on Monday more tired than when you left on Friday.  We have been pretty lazy and have been working every Saturday.

On Feb 2nd a group of us went to Tuscaloosa for signing day.  We heard Saban give the "State of the Union" and went to Innisfree after the meeting.  We had a great time and I am very confident Bama football will be solid for years to come.

Last night D and I went to a Valentine's dinner that the Chamber was sponsoring and we had a nice evening.

This post was really to let you all know that I haven't quit.

Stunned

Last week I spoke of the passing of Drex Guthrie.  Well, Monday morning I got a call that "Mama" Nell Cook had just died.  For those of you that do not know that is Drex's grandmother.  She had not been doing very well, but it was still a shock with the events of last week.

Mama Nell and Uncle Drexel were my grandparents neighbors and good friends.  As we lost my grandparents both at young ages the Cooks kinda took up the slack in my eyes.  I respected both of them so much and they were both such sweet people.  Uncle Drexel died the year before my accident and I think about him often and miss his humor a lot.  Mama Nell was just the sweetest soul and let JD and I get away with waaaaaay to much.

Mama Nell is definitely in a better place. I'm sure right now she is catching up with Unc, Lewey, and Gayle and having a BIG time.

Please continue to keep the Cooks and Guthrie's in your prayers.

Thursday

Hey Guys,

Late last week we got some very sad news.  Drex Guthrie was in a Colorado hospital fighting for his life.  I grew up with Drex as his grandparents lived beside mine(Daniel and Rhonda's old house) and his cousin and I were great friends.  Every time I saw Drex he had a smile on his face and always seemed glad to see me.  As we got older I saw him less frequently, but when I did we always talked about the old times.

Friday I got news that Drex died and I must admit it hit me like a ton of bricks.  Please keep the Guthrie's and Cook's  in your thoughts and prayers as the mourn the loss of a son, grandson, brother, cousin and nephew.

Wednesday

Hey Guys,
Sorry for the lack of content lately.  I have been pretty busy, but also there hasn't been alot going on.  I can tell you of some exciting news from this past weekend.  Saturday was such a awesome day in south Alabama that Jerry and I were determined to be outside.  He mention he wanted to go to the golf course and I figured that would be nice

Since my accident I have tried to hit golf balls with terrible results and the first one I hit Saturday was bad as well.  Jerry and I were talking and he asked if I had ever tried to hit it 1 handed.  I said no and we kept pondering.  On the next tee Dad pulled up and we told him what we were going to try.  I hit the ball square and it went 150 or so right down the middle.  There isn't a whole lot of distance but I am making solid contact.  I hit several more shots that afternoon and more on Sunday before the rain.  It appears we have something to work with.  I'm pretty excited.

This afternoon a group of us are going to Tuscaloosa for a signing day party and the State of the Union from Saban.  It a good time.  I will report about it later in the week.

"Vegas" Trip Report

Sorry for the Delay:

We had a flight out of Montgomery at 5:20 on Friday. We actually sat next to one of D's co-worker's on that flight. We had a couple hour lay-over so we had a little dinner and waited for our flight.

We got ready to board and I ask the guy at the counter about upgrades. For a nominal fee we were seated in first class. We watched "The Social Network" and read a liitle. We landed around 11:45 and headed to Bally's. We had a little trouble checking in, but eventually got it handled.

Saturday morning we got up and headed to Mirage to met and with Robyn and her boyfriend. We ate at BLT burger and caught up with them. We headed back to Bally's to hit the sportsbook to watch the NFL games. D's friend Bryan and his group made it and we were all there except Bub and "Aunt Amy", but they were there soon. I went to hang with them at the roulette wheel and dusted off a buy-in.

Sunday morning I laid around and got ready for that slate of NFL games before we met Rob's group at the Hilton book. We decided that Sunday night we would see "Love" at the Mirage. It's the Cirque show of Beatles music. Two words sum it up "Absolutely Amazing". After the show I was done.

D and that group got up to head to Glendale Monday morning. I got an email when I woke up that our flight home had been cancelled. I finally spoke to somebody and they said it would be Thursday instead of Tuesday getting home. DeAnn's friend worked a deal to get us home on Tuesday but it was gonna be rough. I settled in the sportsbook to watch the Auburn game. After they won Robyn, Abbas, and I played blackjack until it was time for me to get us packed.

Our new flight left at 6:30 am so I had us semi-packed when DeAnn got back at 3. She got a shower because we both figured it would be a long day. We checked out at 4:30 and saw the light on the strip in the early morning. Our plan was to go to Salt Lake and have a small lay-over, then on to Atlanta. In SLC it was 11 degrees and I had NO jacket. We made our connection and tried to sleep as we both didn't the previous night. We made it to Atlanta and really didn't think we would get home. The airport was a ghost town like I had never seen. Our flight was supposed to leave at 7:30 but we finally got off the ground at 8:30. We landed safely in Montgomery and pulled into the house at 9:45 Bama time.

We ended up having a great time even tough all I did was lose. Auburn won DeAnn was stoked even though she didn't get in the game. Now we are both back to the grind. Hope you guys enjoy the read.

Trip Report "Cruise

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the down time. It has been a whirlwind since Christmas.

We left last Thursday (30th) going to Jacksonville to board the carnival "Fascination". Happy Birthday Reese! Anyway, we got there with no problem. Then, they said only 1 person could go in the wheelchair line with me. DeAnn and I were signed up and cleared with in 12 minutes. We scouted the boat and took our carry on to the room. We then went to the Lido and ordered and bucket of beer and waited on the slackers. The rest of the day was spent getting familiar with the boat.

Friday we were in Freeport BMS. Freeport was hit very hard by the storms of '04 and '05. It hasn't really recovered. We went to the Market and walked around while Reese and Mom hit the beach. When we got back on the boat it was time for the captains dinner and NYE festivities. We dressed in our nice duds and hit the Lido deck for the countdown. At the stroke of midnight the captain hit the horn and it was very cool. One of my cooler NY experiences.

NY day we were in Nassau. The tv's on the boat were awful and we watched very few football games. I was GOING to watch Bama. They had some crazy 18 hour parade in Nassau where groups tried to win a $100,000 prize so everything on the island was shutdown until 2. Everything except Atlantis. That is the huge resort that you see all the commercials for. Went got a cab there and found a deal where for $60 a head we could hot the beach, tour aquarium, and get lunch. Dad and I laid on the beach (80 degrees) for a couple of hours and then scored prime seats in the sportsbook at the mega casino. There were a few Bama fans that made it awesome to watch. We saw 1 $15 BJ table and everything else was $50 or $100. Too rich for this poor boy. We pretty much crashed when we got back on the boat.

Sunday(1st) was a sailing day. Weather was optimal (90 degrees) we laid out by the pool and finally vacationed a little. What a wonderful trip with a great family. Can a guy get any more lucky?

Gotta Go to Work.
